Frequently Asked Questions
I’m a parent, teacher, professor, or social worker. Why shouldn’t I counsel my own child or close family member?
While parents, teachers, and helping professionals often provide valuable guidance and emotional support, professional counselling requires objectivity and therapeutic boundaries. Close personal relationships can make it difficult to remain neutral, and individuals may feel less comfortable discussing sensitive concerns openly. For this reason, ethical mental health practice generally discourages counselling immediate family members or close blood relations.
When should I consider speaking with a mental health professional?
You may benefit from professional support if emotional, behavioural, relationship, or stress-related concerns begin affecting your daily life, work, studies, physical health, or overall sense of well-being. Seeking support early can often prevent difficulties from becoming more overwhelming.
How do I know whether I need a psychologist or a medical doctor?
The right professional depends on your concerns. Psychologists focus on assessment, counselling, psychotherapy, behavioural interventions, and emotional well-being. Medical doctors and psychiatrists can diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, and address biological aspects of mental health. If you’re unsure where to start, we can help guide you toward the most appropriate support.
What types of concerns do you help with?
We provide support for a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, depression, relationship difficulties, workplace challenges, family conflicts, child and adolescent concerns, emotional regulation, self-esteem issues, life transitions, and personal development.
Is counselling only for people with serious mental health conditions?
Not at all. One of the biggest misconceptions about therapy is that it is only for individuals with clinical diagnoses. Counselling can benefit anyone facing stress, relationship challenges, career concerns, life transitions, emotional difficulties, personal growth goals, or simply seeking greater self-awareness and well-being.
Is everything I share during counselling confidential?
Confidentiality is a fundamental part of the therapeutic process. Information shared during sessions is kept private, except in situations where disclosure is legally or ethically required to ensure someone’s safety.
